Our Mission
We, the Multicultural Awareness Coalition of West Virginia University at Parkersburg believe in equality
of all persons regardless of race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or physical ability and deem it necessary to
promote the general welfare and total educational mission of this institution. This coalition of diverse students and
staff hope to aid the WVUP campus through our involvement and interest to become a truly multicultural community in
which all can share in the learning process. It is our goal that our diversity and differences can be a positive and
enriching force upon this campus.
|
The purpose of this organization is to enhance student, staff, and faculty awareness of the
numerous contributions, histories, and cultures that are represented on this campus; to recognize that the greatest gift we
can offer to any person is the opportunity to develop and grow in their individual capacities; to promote a clear social understanding
of the impact that diversity brings to an academic community; to work to bring about social justice on the WVUP campus; to
develop student awareness of the available multicultural community resources and the importance of utilizing these resources
to build a greater educational community. Activities of this organization will provide students and staff with positive
and meaningful involvement with each other and with the greater community. Through field trips, workshops, guest speakers,
social, as well as political, activities the academic community will be greatly enriched about the multicultural and global
impact.
